How to choose a rifle or shotgun case
Measure your gun first. Measure the overall length with the barrel and stock, and allow a little extra room for a scope if you use one. A case that is too tight puts pressure on the scope, while one that is too loose lets the gun move around.
Leather or canvas? Full-grain leather is the most durable and develops a rich patina over the years. Waxed canvas with leather trim is lighter and shrugs off rain, which makes it a good everyday field case.
Padding and closure. Look for a padded lining to protect the finish, and a strong zip or buckle closure. A shoulder strap makes long walks easier.
